Siding Spring is located ~25 kilometres to the west of Coonabarabran in New South Wales, Australia. The Warrumbungle National Park is a beautiful area and a favourite place for campers and walkers. The area is home to the Kamilaroi people. Sitting atop of Mount Woorut are many telescopes, the most striking and easily the most visible is the Anglo Australian Telescope (AAT).
The large dome is the Anglo Australian Telescope (AAT). This photograph was taken looking towards the west. Other observatories can be seen to the right.
This photograph was taken looking towards the east as the AAT gets ready for a night of observations.
The 3.9m AAT first saw light in 1974 and is the largest optical telescope in Australia.
