Siding Spring is home to many observatories some of which are operational and some have been retired. The first telescopes at the site arrived in the 1960's and were located at the west side of the mountain. The 40", 24" and 16" were the first to be installed.
The large dome in the background is the Anglo Australian Telescope (AAT). The observatory in the foreground is the Australian National University (ANU) 2.3m. There is no "dome" as the whole building rotates.
This photograph shows the 24" observatory with the 2.3m ANU observatory behind to the right.
This view is from the walkway on the outside of the AAT dome. The large dome houses the UK Schmidt 1.2m telescope. To the right we see the two 1m domes and the 2m Faulkes Telescope South in the building between the domes. These telescopes are part of the Las Cumbres Observatory global telescope network.
The white building in the middle foreground with the "roll on, roll off" roof is the iTelescope observatory housing 20+ telescopes.
Sky Mapper located close to the trig point at the west of the site.
This photograph shows the 40" observatory to the left with the Korean observatory to the right.
